Goalkeeper One on One Training Drills

PGC Director of Coaching Bob Warby shares his drills online for use by all goalkeeper coaches. All training drills are suitable for goalkeepers of every age, ability and level and are only as good as the coach delivering them!

FREE Goalkeeper Coaching Drill GK begins the drill by moving to any football and passing to A who gently strikes goalwards. GK saves and then move to an opposite sided football to repeat

Progressions:

A takes a heavy touch goalwards and follows it in

A dribbles in on the goal, and must go around GK

A can either dribble in or shoot. GK must decide and react accordingly.

FREE Goalkeeper Coaching Drill A begins the drill with a volley at GK. GK catches and distributes to either B or C, they control the pass and must dribble down the channel marked by cones before entering the penalty area. They must try to go around or past GK.

Progressions:

B or C can shoot as soon as they enter the penalty area

A is the defender and reacts to B or C's first touch

B or C join in as a second attacker

FREE Goalkeeper Coaching Drill A starts on the edge of the D, GK on his goal line. A begins to dribble through the "gate" and then sprints with the ball to either left or right cone. GK must prevent him from reaching this cone.

Progressions:

A may "dummy run" and change his mind to the opposite cone

A passes to GK and runs onto the receiving pass

A may shoot after first touch inside the "gate"

....more to follow, keep checking back.
